Restore Coastal Ecosystems

The GEF-IFAD Grant project “Participatory Coastal Zone Restoration and Sustainable Management in the Eastern Province of Post-Tsunami Sri Lanka (PCZRSMP)” has been designed to restore tsunami affected coastal ecosystems in the eastern province of Sri Lanka and ensures their long existence through sustainable management. Considering high vulnerability of eastern coast to natural hazards especially metrological hazards triggering from global climate change, It also focus on promotion of community adaptation to cope with climate change impacts and building up community resilience through supporting sustainable livelihood options and implementing participatory disaster risk reduction measures. The project covers all three coastal districts of the eastern province; Ampara, Baticoloa and Trincomalee nearly one fourth of the entire 1600 km long coastline of Sri Lanka. Initial project period is six years and project is to be ended by 31st December 2016.
